Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
