The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
